SMC Monthly concert July 2023

SMC would like to invite you with family and friends to our Monthly Concert to be held on Saturday 29th July 2023 at the Dundas Community Centre, 21 Sturt Street, Telopea.

4.45 pm to 5.45 pm: Vocal concert by Smt. Deepthi Murali, accompanied by Chi. Ratan Venkatesan on the Violin and Dr. Arthavan Selvanathan on the Mrudangam

6 pm to 8pm: Thematic Vocal concert in praise of Thulasi Maatha (Thulasamma Mayamma) by Smt. Prema Ananthakrishnan accompanied by Kum. Agalya Pavalan on the Violin and Sri. Sivakumar Sethupathi on the Mrudangam
 


Artiste Profiles:

Smt. Deepti Murali


Coming from an ardent Carnatic rasika family, Deepti began her musical training from the age of 8, under the late Smt. Ponnal Balasubramaniam for over 10 years in India. She has performed at various venues and won accolades, in India. After relocating to Sydney in 2021, she continues her musical journey under the tutelage of Smt.Chitra Krishnamurthy.In addition to her passion for music, she pursues a career in the realm of data analytics.

Smt. Prema Anandakrishnan


Smt. Prema Anandakrishnan began her musical training at the age of 5 under the late Smt. Savitri Menon, and continued her vocal training under a string of musical luminaries like the late Smt. Venkatalakshmi, Smt. Ananthalakshmi Venkatraman and the late Sri Vechoor Harihara Subramania Iyer of the Sri Thyagaraja parambara. Apart from completing a Master's in Carnatic Music from Kerala University, Prema was an AIR artiste and has given several full length concerts in India and in Australia. She extended her repertoire and knowledge of Carnatic Music in Sydney under the guidance of Smt. Rajalakshmi Venkatachari. She has sung for various dance arangetrams and productions such as Krishnaleelamrutham, Dasavatharam and Namami Narayanam. She is the teacher of various students in Sydney.

Kum. Agalya Pavalan


Agalya Pavalan is a Year 12 student at Baulkham Hills High School. Her first and main musical discipline is the Carnatic style Violin, which she has been learning for over ten years under the tutelage of Sri Kranthi Kiran Mudigonda. Agalya also learns Carnatic Vocals from Smt. Lakshmi Kumaraguruparan. She trains Western Piano under the guidance of Mr Joseph Blackman. Outside of the musical field, Agalya has learnt Bharatanatyam for over 5 years with Smt Pathmaranjini Umashankar. She has a keen interest and pursues martial arts with a passion and has a Black belt in Taekwondo

Chi. Ratan Venkatesan


Ratan is a music enthusiast who received his initial training in Carnatic Violin under Sri. Sriram Panyam but later has been a student of Sri. Kranthi Kiran Mudigonda for over 10 years now. He is keen on developing his skills further, and regularly participates in events across Sydney. Ratan has also learnt Carnatic Vocal under Smt. Shubha Harinath. Currently, he is a student of Sri. Krishna Ramarathinam. Ratan is an active member of Karpahavalli, and is involved in organising events promoting Carnatic music to Sydney’s youth. He is a final year student at UNSW, studying Materials Science and Chemical Engineering and at present doing hgis internship at ANSTO.

 

Sri. Sivakumar Sethupathi


Siva had his training in mridangam under Guru Sri T.S. Janakiraman, a disciple of Sri Palani Subramania Pillai. He was a recipient of music scholarship awarded by the Centre For Cultural Resources and Training, Government of India. He is a sought-after mridangam artiste for Carnatic music programs, Bharatanatyam recitals and Sampradaya Bhajans in Australia. He has accompanied several leading artistes from India. Siva is a founding member of Sydney Bhajan Mandali.
