SMC Monthly Concert October 2022

SMC would like to invite you with family and friends to our Monthly Concert to be held on Sunday 30th October 2022 at the Dundas Community Centre, 21 Sturt Street, Telopea.


Artiste Profiles:

Dr. M.S. Ramanathan


Dr. Maraiyur Ramanathan, a medical practitioner, learnt classical music from a very early age. Growing up in a musical family background, he learnt initially from Smt. Andal Ammal, a disciple of Chitthur Subramanya Pillai and later from teachers like Sri C .V. Krishnamurthy (Principal, Gandharva Gana Nilayam, Chennai), Sri P.N.Raghava Rao, Sri Ramnad Krishnan and maestro Sri KV Narayanaswamy. Dr. Ramanathan was awarded the title of Gayaka Praveena and a Diploma in Music by Egmore School of Music in Chennai. Before performing in Chennai in various Sabhas, Dr. Ramanathan has participated and won many prizes in various music competitions, including the Madras Music Academy in 1963 and 1964. Dr. Ramanathan has also received the blessings of doyen of Carnatic classical music Sri Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer. He was awarded Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan's award for lifelong service to Classical music last year Dr. Ramanathan has been a regular performer in Melbourne and Sydney & Brisbane. Dr. Ramanathan has scripted, choreographed and directed the musical opera Sundara Kandam, to celebrate SMCs 25th year. The opera featured many of Dr. Ramanathans students and other Sydney music teachers and their students, participating to produce a colourful musical opera in Carnatic music. Dr. Ramanathan also teaches Carnatic music to a number of students.

Sri. Kranthi Kiran Mudigonda


Kranthi Kiran Mudigonda had his initial training in music with Sri P.S.S.R Jagannatham and Sri N. C. Ramanujam. He had advanced training under eminent vidwan Sri Dwaram Satyanarayana Rao at Hyderabad. He is currently under advanced tutelage in vocal from Hyderabad Brothers and violin from Parur Sri M A Sundareswaran. He has a vast experience in accompanying local and visiting artistes for various concerts across Australia. He also developed interest in percussion and has undergone training in mridangam and kanjira from Sri Kaliprasad Babu, Melakaveri Sri K Balaji and Sri Nerkunam Sankar. He continues to learn mridangam from Maestro Sri Patri Satish Kumar. He founded Geervani Academy of Performing Arts and teaches Vocal, Violin and Mridangam in Sydney.

Sri. Sivakumar Sethupathi


Siva had his training in mridangam under Guru Sri T.S. Janakiraman, a disciple of Sri Palani Subramania Pillai. He was a recipient of music scholarship awarded by the Centre For Cultural Resources and Training, Government of India. He is a sought-after mridangam artiste for Carnatic music programs, Bharatanatyam recitals and Sampradaya Bhajans in Australia. He has accompanied several leading artistes from India. Siva is a founding member of Sydney Bhajan Mandali.
