SMC Monthly concert April 2024

Dear Music Rasikas,

SMC would like to invite you with family and friends to our Monthly Concert to be held on Saturday 27th April 2024 at the Dundas Community Centre, 21 Sturt Street, Telopea.

4.45 pm to 5.45 pm: Vocal concert by Kum. Aishwarya Harishankar, accompanied by Chi. Abhinav Harishankar on the Violin and Chi. Srman Nadamuni on the Mrudangam

6 pm to 8pm: Thematic Vocal concert by Smt. Subha Harinath accompanied by Smt. Mahathi Balajee on the Violin and Sri. Nirmal Ayyar on the Mrudangam.
 

Artiste Profiles:

Smt. Subha Harinath

Subha Harinath was introduced to music at a very young age and has the privilege of undergoing training from disciples of the famous Carnatic Music legends. Subha was introduced to music and continue to train with her mother Smt. Rajalakshmi Venkatachari - disciple of Shri.B.Rajam Iyer . She did her initial training under Shri. Sethurama Iyer - disciple of Shri. Madurai Mani Iyer. Subha continues her advanced training under Smt. Prema Hariharan - disciple of Shri. Kalyanaraman. She along with her guru Smt. Prema Hariharan released audioChinna Chinna Slokangal andThaye Thulasamma which was a great success in Chennai. She was very fortunate to be the lead singer for the dance balletKreeda by Prof.C.V.Chandrashekar which was a huge hit in Sydney and Canberra. Subha has been part of music circle in Australia performing in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and also has been lead singer for charity fund raising dance ballet's organised in Sydney. Subha has had training in playing the Carnatic Violin under the guidance of Parur.Shri.M.S.Anantharaman. She is currently a Corporate IT professional, teaching Carnatic Music to a handful of very talented and dedicated students. Subha aims to provide young students with a holistic understanding and appreciation of South Indian Music.

Smt. Mahathi Balajee

Mahathi was introduced to Carnatic music by her grandmother Vidushi Padma Veeraraghavan. She then continued to learn from Smt. Yamini Ramesh and later from Sri. O.S. Thiagarajan. She currently learns vocal music from Vidushi Seetha Narayanan and Smt. Yamini Ramesh and violin from Sri H.N. Bhaskar. She also learnt western classical violin and piano for several years. Mahathi was a regular performer in various cultural and musical shows in Wellington (New Zealand) and now regularly performs in Sydney. She is also actively involved in Yuva Sangeetha Margam - an initiative to promote Carnatic music among students and rasikas in Sydney. She completed a Certificate in Carnatic music (organised by the Madras University) upon completion of four grades of New Zealand Carnatic Music exams with distinction, and has won first place for vocal performance in a Carnatic music competition conducted in New Zealand.

Sri. Nirmal Ayyar

Nirmal Ayyar has been learning the mrudangam since the age of twelve under the initial tutelage of Sri Suthanthiraraj, before progressing his skills under the guidance of Sri Bala Sankar. He is currently learning under the guidance of Sri Melakkaveri Balaji. Nirmal learnt vocal music from Smt Prema Anandakrishnan and Smt Uma Ayyar. He continues his advanced training from Dr Ramanathan. Nirmal has had the privilege of providing accompaniment in a number of student concerts in Sydney over the past few years and continues to be actively involved in the Carnatic community.
